Algeria visa on arrival: how it works
Most travellers need a visa to enter Algeria, and for many the easiest route is a visa on arrival arranged through a licensed Algerian agency. Who qualifies, what it costs, the one deadline that cannot be missed, and what we do at each step.
What the visa on arrival is
Algeria is difficult to enter on your own. The standard route is a tourist visa issued by a consulate before you travel. The visa on arrival is the alternative: instead of applying at a consulate, a licensed Algerian agency requests an authorisation from the authorities on your behalf, and the visa itself is issued when you land.
It is tied to the trip rather than to a consular appointment: the itinerary has to include the south of Algeria, and it has to be organised and accompanied by a licensed agency. As that agency, we file the request, provide the documents, and stay with you throughout the trip.
The authorisation must be requested no less than 15 days before you arrive in Algeria. A request filed later is refused.
Who is eligible
The visa on arrival is available only for itineraries that include at least one city in the south of Algeria, booked through a licensed Algerian agency. Every one of our example trips includes a southern stop — Djanet, Timimoun or Taghit, for instance — so all of them qualify.
A trip that stays only in the north — Algiers, the coast, the Roman cities, Constantine — does not qualify. Those travellers apply at an Algerian consulate, and we provide the invitation letter, itinerary and hotel confirmations for the application.
